Luna Sea Inn is a place a bit off center. A place where we all let our hair down, where shorts and flip flops are proper attire day, evening or any occasion. Luna Sea is for those with a crazy passion for the sea. And there is plenty of that to enjoy, as we are almost surrounded by it upon our tiny peninsula!

The gazebo sits above the Caribbean Sea at just over 18 degrees north of the equator. Come join us for a refreshing frozen concoction while the sun is still high overhead or relax with some of the best sunsets in the world. As our focal point, the gazebo offers guests a southwest view across beautiful Bluefields Bay, so sunsets are always incredible. Every night is a different painting in the sky. Sometimes red, other times pink, (rarely gray) but always beautiful. Or maybe catch an amazing moonset complete with shooting stars.

Jump in the infinity pool for a quick cool down. Move to the swim up bar for an ice cold Red Stripe or just relax by the waterfall. There are hand made adirondack chairs on deck waiting for you. No problem if you are not a swimmer, the pool is only four foot deep! It is for hanging out, not swimming. If you want to take a swim, jump in the ocean ~ accessible from both sides of the property.

There are loungers sitting strategically around for laying in the sun or shade while reading your favorite book or just taking in your surroundings. Perhaps you and your special person want to take over the seaside lounge bed for a bit of cuddling while the waves lap at the shore just a few feet away. Listen to a bit of Reggae or just soak up the real vibes of Jamaica.

The courtyard, with four rooms opening directly onto it, is a great place to gather to watch that favorite sports team. With a large outdoor TV it is perfect to catch a game with old friends or to make new ones. It is also perfect for a family gathering, a birthday party, or even a small wedding reception. With high speed cable, there is always something great to watch.

If you are feeling a bit hungry, you'll be in for a treat. Move over to our restaurant for a cheeseburger in paradise or some international cuisine (often with a Jamaican twist). If you are craving some traditional cooking, we've got that too. Try a spicy local dish. There are many great drinks to partake of at the bar. Ask our staff for recommendations. All of this is seaside so you never have to leave the ocean or change from your swimsuit. Just throw on a t-shirt or cover up and come on over.

Make your way to the Little Shop of Luna Sea in our lobby for a unique selection of local goods. Offering a wide range of Jamaican made products, our Little Shop is two spacious cabinets full of unique handpicked offerings. We are committed to supporting artists all around Jamaica. We have beautiful handcrafted calabash, wooden carvings, paintings and jewelry among other craft items that are sure to catch your attention. Please be aware that 25% of the proceeds from purchases in the gift shop will be channeled back into our community partnerships.

Tours can be arranged to meet with artists in the immediate community. Local artists, Jah Calo of Studio Black and Gerry McDonald have galleries just a short distance from the property.

Our team at Luna Sea Inn is dedicated to making your stay the best experience possible. All are eager to greet you with a smile and welcome you to a place that we are so fortunate to call home... Bluefields, Jamaica! We look forward to having you back again and again. Only happy, dedicated people are hired for Luna Sea Inn and we want everyone to have fun from staff to guests. Laughter and smiles are commonplace.

Anything a guest wants or needs, from a special liquor to a special smoke, just let us know. It is our goal is to meet every possible request quickly and seamlessly. Five star service for a three star price is our motto.

Luna Sea Inn is a fitting name for a hotel that was bought on a whim by a retired physician who was bored. She saw the potential for a fun and exciting adventure.

Thinks To Do At Luna Sea Inn

WHATS TO DO AT LUNA SEA INN???

There is really no need to go far at all for some exciting things to do. Some of the best things to do are right in your back yard. From the gazebo, catch the sunset (or a moonset) and look for the fish who are attracted to the lights at night. During the day keep an eye out for dolphins or rays jumping from the ocean.
The staff of Luna Sea is happy to help be your tour guides and steer you toward all that Bluefields and the nearby area has to offer.
Here's a list of some of our local favorites.
• Take a cruise on the trimaran sail boat and stop for a gourmet picnic created by our own chef Vinton.
• Have a rum punch while pretending you are a real pirate! Please, no plundering.
• Take a kayak to explore the nooks and crannies of our varied coast or check out a paddleboard for a bit of exercise.
• Arrange for a scuba lesson or even a private excursion.
• If you are a diver, when was the last time you went diving with a maximum of six divers? This is the way to experience hands on excitement, not with a herd of twenty or forty divers but with you and a few buddies and some bubbles.
• Take the speed boat out to the reef for a snorkeling trip you will never forget or just jump in and go around the hotel looking at the coral heads close to shore.
• Ask a local fisherman to take you out for the day. You can learn hand fishing as it has been done in Jamaica for generations. Check his pots and perhaps he will sell you some of the bounty. Then bring it home to the chef for your own magnificent meal. It doesn't get any fresher than that.
• Take a hike up the mountain with a local guide who can discuss the fauna, flora and birds. Have a view to remember from the top of a mountain with an ocean at your feet.
• Take a ride to beautiful Bluefields Beach. This is a public beach but is little used during the week when most are working. On the weekend, you can join the crowds at play in the sea.
• Go for a swim off the hotel and let the current take you downstream. Don't worry, we can pick you up if you drift too far.
• Have a seaside massage or take a manicure and pedicure on your own verandah.
• Curl up with your book and get a tan on one of the chaise loungers.
• Just relax and let the sounds of the ocean waves, wipe all your cares away.

Area Tours

There are numerous nearby attractions on Jamaica's south coast. In fact, tourists from Negril, an hour west and Montego Bay, an hour north routinely travel past our hotel to several of the area attractions. Everything from waterfalls to a bar accessible only by boat is here. Below are some favorite local attractions.

Market to Table is a tour of the local market where chef will assist you in purchasing the freshest and best fruits and vegetables. Then on to the fish market (depending on weather) to select the day’s catch. From there back to the hotel. While you are relaxing with a fresh fruit smoothie (with or without a bit of rum), chef will be getting everything ready for your delicious lunch or dinner in the gazebo. The staff will have set the table elegantly with fresh flowers and candles. Chef will then prepare a tableside gourmet meal while you watch. Learn the techniques and take home a great recipe to remember us by!

YS Falls is a splendid site with a series of seven falls with elaborate walways and resting points beside them. There are ponds at the base of each fall where you can swim. It is deep in the rain forest with wild ginger, birds of paradise, orchids and bromeliads among many other tropical plants growing naturally. The sheer beauty is breathtaking. You can take a rope swing and drop into the pond in front of the fall. The water is refreshing even if it is cold. Continue the climb to arrive at the zip line where you can do a treetop canopy tour. There are beautiful picnic tables located throughout. There are two swimming pools, one from the river with a rock bottom and another more traditional pool. A children’s playground, a changing room and toilets round out YS Falls.

Appleton Estates Rum factory is just a short drive away. You start the tour in the bar with a classic rum punch then join the guide for the first stop with the burro turning the wheel to squeeze the cane. This tour shows the original ways of making rum as well as the modern methods. Conclude with a tasting of many different rums and liquors all made on site. Visit the duty free shop to purchase some liquid souvenirs.

Pelican Bar has been called one of the best beach bars in the world. It started as a dream when a local Rastafarian, Floyd, was told to build a bar in the ocean. He did and they came. He built it on stilts in four feet of water, a half mile off shore. Floyd’s is accessible only by boat. It is a bar built on a sandbar just inside a reef about 45 minutes from the hotel. The Red Stripe is cold, the music is loud and the smoke may be more than just a Cuban cigar. People from all over the world show up here traveling hours by bus or car plus boat to say they too came to Pelican Bar. Pods of dolphins frequently frolic just outside the reef. Fish of many colors are easily seen under the bar.

Black River Safari is just a short thirty minute drive from the hotel. It takes visitors up the Black River to see mangrove trees hanging in the river which is home to many endangered crocodiles. These magnificent reptiles lie sunning themselves on the banks or just under the edge of the water. The brave of heart (or is that the fool hardy?) may take a swim with them. Black River is so named not for the dark color of the river for in actuality the river water is crystal clear. It is the base that is dark. Black River itself is one of the oldest cities in Jamaica. It was important as a port when they floated downstream logs for sailboat masts and dyes. Take a walking tour on Thursdays to see the amazing Victorian architecture.

Roaring River is a magnificent spectacle of a huge cavern with a river that runs through it. This natural beauty spot contains mineral waters that gush from the ground in a meadow full of water hyacinths and lilies. A stone aqueduct takes up some of the water which runs in a turquoise-jade color. One can take a massage in the rocky whirlpool or dive into the blue hole, which legend has it, has no bottom. This is an area full of stalactites and stalagmites. Harmless fruit bats roost in the recesses.

The Blue Hole Gardens is just a short distance from Roaring River. It is a beautiful botanical garden developed by a Swiss couple. The turtle river is an ancient Taino water source. This is a beautiful spot with a fantastic gazebo for picnicking. You can swim in the river or in the blue hole…your choice. We can arrange a gourmet picnic and a cooler of beer or wine or rum punch to make your day even more special.

Mayfield Falls is an eco-tourism attraction centrally located in the parish of Westmoreland, Jamaica. It consists of 2 beautiful waterfalls, 21 natural pools, 52 types of ferns and lots of exotic flowers, plant species, birds, butterflies and wildlife native to Jamaica. The stones are slippery so you should definitely wear water shoes. For those who are concerned about sunburn – not to worry here as there is a lot of shade. The level of physical activity here is considered medium. You are walking through the water for about an hour. Many non-athletic people get through it quite fine so do not let this deter you. Mayfield has awesome tour guides there to help anyone who needs it. Admission is $15 and tips are expected for the guides.

Paradise Horseback Riding: You will not find this exquisite park in most of the guide books because it is primarily a cattle and dairy farm that has been owned and operated by the same family for over a hundred years. The sprawling 18th Century estate is located on a tropical savanna with lush, grassy pastures and brilliantly colored flowering trees and shrubs. Close by the sea are tangled scrublands, a natural palm jungle and mangroves where the Sweet River empties into the bay. It is best viewed at a sedate pace on horseback. No galloping is allowed and a tour of the property takes about 1 ½ hours.

Afterwards you are invited to enjoy the park at your leisure. Explore the trails of a tropical forest that has been left intact to preserve the birdlife, laze under the shade of a giant cotton tree, taste a freshly picked, tree-ripened mango (May-June), swim in the azure waters of Bluefields Bay, picnic in the park (picnic benches and grills are provided), or refresh yourself in the cool, crystal clear waters of the Sweet River. You will experience how the property got its name. Paradise!

Negril is a destination in itself. Seven Mile beach is often in the list of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world. This is a real beach lover’s paradise with white sand and blue water. Take a recommendation for lunch or just try some jerk on the beach. Rick’s Café on the rocks is world famous for their divers who jump off the cliffs into the water. Perhaps, you are a true "parrot head' and want to check out the original Margaritaville. The same area where Jimmy Buffet was shot at in a sea plane by local police thinking he was a drug transporter! Or perhaps, you want to wander down to Drifter's bar, where Luddy Sams, one of the original Drifters will serenade you with "Down Under the Boardwalk" or "My Girl" on a sunny afternoon. Check with staff to find out which days he is singing. On a Saturday you may want to venture to Sea Star for their buffet and reggae show. Either way, Negril is an experience from mellow vibes to the most thumping dancehall.
